Affiliate Plan Lesson 3

Lesson 3: BLOGGING FOR POSITION and BLOGGING FOR MONEY

Your blog can accomplish two basic – yet very important – functions for your marketing efforts: get you noticed and make you some extra cash. Of course, a lot of people are most interested in the “extra cash” part but the “get you noticed” part is as (if not ‘more’) important.

Blogging For Position:

» Plan to write at least one short blog twice a day.

  • Think about what is inspiring you about your topic each time you sit down to write a post.
  • Then, look at your list of keywords/keyword phrases.
  • Try to lump at least 5 – 10 keywords together to form a theme for the post.  Think back to school days and consider writing in your blog like writing in a journal about a specific topic.
  • After you have your theme, start writing your blog post as a short, informational article/review/advice or opinion piece. This kind of writing is what interests people the most and posts such as these will begin to draw your audience.
  • Look for places to naturally insert your keywords and/or keyword phrases.
  • Some of the times you use a keyword or keyword phrase in your blog, hyperlink that word back to the Thank God I… site using your affiliate link (if you don’t understand this please refer back to the Affiliate Getting Started Manual).
  • Also, if you have your own web site, don’t overlook the opportunity to also link some keywords back to your own site to get additional traffic directed there from this blog as well.
  • Finally, link some basic keywords to major sites like Google Knol, Wikipedia and other sites that rank high for those keywords.  To do this, take your keywords and do a Google search.  Link those keywords back to the sites that come up in the top “organic search” positions (those that are in the “body” of the search results; not the top 3 positions in the shaded box [those are paid positions] and not the ads that appear on the right side of the page).
  • Continue this process daily.
  • Don’t be afraid to just write a fun, no-purpose, post every now and then as you want to keep this fun and exciting.  Not dull and like a chore.  Also, the more interesting your blog is in general, the better you will rank naturally.

Blogging For Money:

» You will still follow all of the above.  However, also link some of your keywords using your Thank God I… affiliate link for various Marketing Groups (if you don’t understand this please refer back to the Affiliate Getting Started Manual).

» Every so often, you can actually review a product for which you are an affiliate.  Just make sure to present pros and cons to the product…even if the pros eventually outweigh the cons.  In the body of the review, the first time you mention the product, hyperlink to the product sales page with your affiliate link. In most cases, do not include a “buy here” link at the end of the review.

» Most blog platforms (such as Blogger or Wordpress), allow you to add areas for Google Adsense or other affiliate ads/banners. As described in the “Affiliate Getting Started Manual”, most retailers have affiliate programs now. Additionally, there are some “clearinghouses” that manage the affiliate programs for many bigger retailers such as:

Clickbank

Commission Junction

Linkshare
