Top 10 Tips for Enhancing Your Emotional and Mental Health

“A desire to be in charge of our own lives, a need for control, is born in each of us. It is essential to our mental health, and our success, that we take control.” ~ Robert Foster Bennett

Your current lifestyle may not be conducive to maintaining your emotional and mental health. Our society is overworked, overstressed, and too focused on things that don’t support good psychological well-being.  Being proactive and doing things that foster good mental health can be a powerful way to enrich the quality of your day-to-day life.

Apply these tips on a daily basis:

🎯 No man is an island.

Having loving, compassionate and healthy relationships with others plays an important part in psychological health.

🎯 Keep your body healthy.

Poor physical health can result in difficulties with mental health. The better you feel physically, the better you’ll feel psychologically, too.

🎯 Regularly challenge yourself.

While having too much stress in your life may be perceived as negative, having too little can be just as bad. We all need balance of what can be perceived as negative and positive stress.  A certain amount of stress in the form of challenges helps you to thrive and stay sharp. If your life lacks any challenge, create some.

  • Develop a goal and strive to meet it. There will most definitely be some stress and challenges along the way.

🎯 Learn how to deal with perceived negative stress effectively.

Most of us have self-soothing habits that fail to address the cause of stress. Some may deal with stress in ways that make the situation worse. If you’re financially stressed, eating a tub of ice cream will still leave you broke, but you’ll also end up gaining weight. Seek effective solutions instead.

  • Activities such as exercising, spending time with a friend, or reading a book can be healthy options for lowering your level of stress.
  • Learning the process of equilibration will completely change your point of view and bring you to a place of joy and contentment aka ‘inner peace’, in turn, annihilating perceived negatives.

🎯 Spend time each day on an enjoyable activity.

It might be playing the piano or taking your dog for a walk. It doesn’t matter, so long as you consider it enjoyable and it allows you to concentrate on something other than work and necessary routines.

🎯 Practice the art of forgiveness.

Anger and grudges accomplish little. They put you in a vicious mental cycle that degrades your sense of well-being. Every second you’re angry or upset is a second you’re not filled with love, joy and contentment.

  • Learning to equilibrate your emotions surrounding things that make you feel angry will help immensely.

🎯 Give your time to others.

Helping someone in need is a great way to boost the way you feel about yourself. It’s also a great way to meet others that are also caring and giving.

  • Consider a group of people you’d like to help and find an organization that services them.

🎯 Learn how to quiet your mind.

Your mind rarely gets a rest, not even while you’re sleeping. All night long you’re likely tossing, turning, and dreaming. There are many ways to rest your mind: praying, meditating, and practicing mindfulness are just a few.

  • Brains are restless. They’re constantly thinking, predicting, and remembering. Learn how to control yours.

🎯 Ask for help.

If you break your arm, you seek medical assistance. If you’re having a psychological issue, there’s no reason not to do the same. No matter what your challenge may be, there’s someone available with the expertise to help.

🎯 Keep a journal.

Recording your thoughts on paper after a long, hard day is therapeutic. It releases tension, provides a means of catharsis, and can give you a different perspective.

Emotional and mental health are both critical to your overall well-being. When any component of your health is suffering, it becomes much more challenging to be an effective parent, spouse, friend, or employee. All aspects of your life, especially your physical health, can suffer.

Use these tips to address your psychological health and to help you find Livelihood Spirit Balance where how you live your life is in alignment with who you are at the core.

Dawn-Marie P. Dalsass, President of  Livelihood Spirit Balance is a Stress Management Maven. She’s a Stress and Anxiety Expert for Middle Managers. She started her career in Corporate America while she was in high school and worked her way up the ranks finding herself in middle to upper management for most of her corporate career. She loved what she did but along the way she battled stress, anxiety and depression. When work and life were more than she could handle she planned her suicide in detail. Fortunately, she didn’t go through with it when she saw her 2 little boys on her way to get a knife with a plan to end it all. It was in that moment that she vowed to pull herself together and begin a new journey.

In 2015 she started her own business called Life Coach DM. After several years of working with clients, she realized that the majority of her clients were in middle management just like she was. She had helped most go from being stressed, anxious and / or depressed to being more balanced, aware and dynamic while guiding them on their own journey to achieve life goals including work life balance.

Dawn-Marie has since become a Certified Nature & Forest Therapy Guide and teaches individuals how they too can annihilate the stress, anxiety and depression (aka S.A.D) that middle managers and working parents can face through a process called equilibration (the balancing of the mind and emotions) along with the healing benefits a deep connection to nature (both indoors and out) can bring to become fully balanced, aware and dynamic (aka B.A.D).

Through her own practice, Dawn-Marie discovered what she calls Livelihood Spirit Balance where how one lives their life is in alignment with their authentic self, their B.A.D Ass-self. With Livelihood Spirit Balance, Work Life Balance and everything else just falls into place.

Based on her years of work and client success stories, Dawn-Marie changed her business name to Livelihood Spirit Balance to align with her teachings, mission, vision and purpose.

Dawn-Marie offers online courses, personal and corporate development coaching, workshops and seminars. As the owner of  Total Convalescence – Nature & Forest Therapy  she also offers public and private Nature & Forest Therapy Walks.
